Be Careful, You Can Be Tracked
In this article we are going to look at Bluetooth trackers. By definitions Bluetooth trackers are the electronic devices that you can attach to your personal belongings and connect to your phone using Bluetooth. These trackers are built for the purpose to find lost stuff, but someone can misuse it as it can also be used to follow people without their knowledge.
There are valid concerns about how these gadgets can be used to track people. The most famous trackers made by Apple, Samsung etc. don’t have any built in GPS, so they can’t send a constant beacon with their location, but they can be reported as lost at which point other phones are enlisted anonymously.
How it is done?
It doesn’t take longer for a tracker to leave Bluetooth range of a phone it’s connected to but that individual can then mark the tracker as lost and get a report on its location courtesy of other users. This is handy if you have forgotten your phone in bar, not so helpful if someone has slipped a tracker on you or into your belongings without you realizing.
